A Master’s Degree is usually obtained after completion of an undergraduate Bachelor’s Degree. In the UK and Canada, an Honours Bachelor’s Degree is necessary to pursue a Master’s Degree.
In the UK, a Master’s Degree is recognized and considered the equivalence of a U.S. Master’s Degree. Students have a choice between a Post-graduate Diploma, a taught Master's Degree or a Research Master's Degree. The Post-graduate Diploma generally takes 9 months to complete and is the equivalent of a Taught Master's degree, which takes 12 months to complete. It consists of the same standards and requirements of a U.S. Master’s Degree, but is more focused and has a shorter completion time. In most of Europe, a magister (undergraduate degree) is considered the equivalence of a Master’s Degree. In some programs, the Bachelor’s Degree must also be in the same subject as the intended Associates Degree such as a Master’s in Economics.
In India, Master’s Degrees require two years of study after undergraduate degrees. In some cases, a three year Bachelor’s Degree and a two year Master’s Degree may be equivalent to a U.S. Master’s Degree. However, this depends on the school and program of study.
